The 13th Friedrich World Championships were held in Berlin from 7-9 September 2018 and attracted 32 competitors from Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK & USA.
The winner, his 2nd win, was hometown boy Anton Telle, who played Friedrich in the Final. His opponents in the final were Peter Hannapel (Ger)(Maria), Guy Atkinson (Spa)(Elisabeth) & Marcus Strassman (Ger)(Mme Pompadour). After an early Elisabeth drop (hard luck Guy!), Anton always seemed to be in control.
Earlier Marcus had topped the qualification round table with Peter 2nd, Anton 3rd & Guy 4th.
The two UK entrants had varying fortunes - Andrew Brown came a creditable 12th with 37pts but John McCullough had a 'mare', winning the Golden Hildi booby prize for coming 32nd with 22.2pts.
