The 10th Friedrich World Championships took place in the impressive Castle Friedrichsfelde in Berlin between 2-4 October 2015. German Christian Blattner became the 9th holder of the title with a calm and commanding display. In the qualification round he won 3 out of 4 and had the highest qualification points total of the 34 entrants. In the final he survived the maximum number of turns (23) to win in the role of Friedrich (Prussia & Hannover).
UK entrants Andrew Brown and John McCullough both notched up 2 wins out of 4 and were in contention for a top 4 (final) place in the last round. Andrew narrowly missed out but achieved the highest ever UK placing at 7th. John fell away after failing in an all or nothing strategy to win his last game in the role of Madame Pompadour (France). Bill Fisher (USA but UK based) bravely entered for the first time and his pre-tournament practice paid off with creditable performances that earned many plaudits. You'll win one next year Bill!
