Andrew put in a strong performance, with 2 wins and 2 good scores in his other games.
John topped the qualification round, with 3 wins and 9.17pts as Austria.
In the final John (playing Prussia/Hannover) faced Alex Calderon (Spain) as Austria/Imperial Army, Christian Blattner (Germany) as Russia/Sweden and Bjorn von Knorring (Sweden) as France.
The final ended after about 6 hours and 22 rounds just after midnight as a nail biting affair. John had the cards to hold Bjorn and Christian at bay throughout but his defence in Silesian clubs crumbled towards the end, as the clubs deserted him mid game. However a fresh injection of clubs near the end just saw him through. Alex was unlucky and would have been a worthy winner. For a full report on the final, see histogame.de (shortly).
John thus becomes the first player to win 3 world titles.
